The histories of Lehigh and Berks Counties do not provide the maiden name of Maria Margaretha, Jacob Steinbruch's wife. Several sources state that she was the daughter of Martin Moser and Margaretha Kunkel, who immigrated at Philadelphia in 1728. These sources also state that Maria Margaretha was born in 1728, which is not realistic in terms of the birth date of Maria Barbara in 1741. Accordingly, if Maria Margaretha was a daughter of Martin Moser, she was born in Germany prior to 1728. It is possible that she did not come to America with her parents, but emigrated at a later date with relatives.
